<THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFORMATION – FROM EARTH TO ART
Ceramics is the art of transformation. From the primordial material of the earth – clay – to its final form, each work carries within it a continuous process of change. Matter evolves, gaining strength, shape, and meaning. The ceramicist becomes a companion in this journey, rediscovering again and again the power of creation.
The exhibition “The Journey of Transformation – From Earth to Art” focuses on the concept of transformation not only as a physical and chemical process, but also as an internal journey. Ceramics is not merely a technique – it is a philosophy of life. The artist is transformed along with the material. Through shaping, firing, and completing the work, they discover new aspects of themselves, their craft, and the world around them.
The exhibition aims to bring ceramic art to a broad audience, highlight the work of local studios across Crete, present the work of the Friends of Cretan Ceramics “Keramon,” and foster collaboration among ceramicists across the island through this collective initiative.
“Keramon” is a living and evolving association – a meeting point for people united by a love of ceramics, a collective spirit, and a deep need for expression. On an island that has historically been a crossroads of civilizations, ceramics acts as a bridge between past, present, and future.
The above is part of the official description found on the leaflet of the exhibition and was used as a warm-up to introduce related vocabulary. More activities were posted on our educational platform, privately accessed by our students:

During one of our recent educational trips, we walked to the municipal exhibition center very near our school, where we had the chance to admire the “Metamorphosis” ceramic art exhibition during its last two days on 2/10 & 3/10/25.
B1 up to C2-level groups all worked in groups and did various oral and written activities thoroughly mapped out on the educational platform of the school.
All participants moved in pairs around the gallery, and after a lively discussion with the accompanying teacher about central exhibits, we then split up in order to enjoy and have the ability to reflect on the exhibits we chose separately. Fruitful discussions followed in the beautiful garden of the place and there was plenty of material to be used in the following written projects that the students submitted individually or in groups. You can see some samples in the photographs that follow.
